I posted an icon tutorial for Paint Shop Pro HERE

foreverbm asked me if I'd write a tutorial, to show how to achieve the coloring in some of the icons I posted the other day. So this is my first try. It's pretty basic, but I thought this would be a good place to post it as well.

Program Used: Photoshop CS2
Translatability: probably not, because of the selective coloring.

I posted a tutorial HERE on how I made this in Paint Shop Pro X2. I created the Polaroid frame from scratch, rotated the image and made the background transparent. It was the transparent background thing that I was trying to learn -everything else was a bonus. I am linking here since, while it is not spefically QAF related, I did use a picture of Randy!

This little tutorial came about when I was talking to vlredreign about how to crop difficult pictures. She was working with the cap we're gonna use, and had trouble getting the boys to 'fit' inside the 100x100 frame. The idea about maybe writing a bit of a tutorial for this 'problem' popped up and... here we are! The idea and composition for the finished product is all credit to vlredreign!

We're going from:

to:

click images to see their original size

and then as an added Red-extra,

we'll go from:
to:

So you've found this great cap and you really want to make it into an icon. But no matter how you crop it, it wont really fit...Collapse )

I'm using Photoshop CS2. This tutorial involves selective colouring, but it's not mandatory that you use it. Although it also contains curves, it's possible to achieve the same outcome by screening your base multiple times. So, this tutorial is translatable.

Yesterday I closed the vote on the Header Contest and declared that the winning entry that was made by the lovely qafmaniac was gonna get a spanking new shiny layout to go with it. And now it has!

The layout is done. The header is up.

Congratulations!

I'm happy to say that all artists got at least one vote in this, and they all did such a kick ass job!

THANK YOU!!!!

The voting post is going to be updated with all the names of the artists.

Ok. I'm going to fiddle with a new layout for the community using this header now. ;)

PS: qafmaniac - could you contact me over e-mail (badrudepixie [at] gmail [dot] com)?

Today we'll be trying to make a banner using wicked, sloppy fuzzy masks, photos of clouds, seamless blending and no pen/lasso tool whatsoever. And of course, adjustment layers are a must, because it's summer.

Proposition of serving:

*Image is for reference mainly and actual product appearance may vary. :p

Of course, straying from the appointed path by changing images and settings is more exciting, so if you do it, you can make me proud by showing what you made :3

Requirements:
Photoshop cs2 (I think it should work in PS7 too, but am not 100% sure), basic knowledge of masks, adjustment layers, blending modes.

Ok! This is it people. Fourteen lovely entries, and just to make it hard on you - you can only vote for ONE!

Don't vote for your own entry - because what fun would that be? Pimp the poll out and get your friends to vote, just don't tell them which entry or entries are yours. Again - what fun would that be? ;)

Behind the cut are all of them in their original size, look them over and then come back up here to cast your vote.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!
